The Cadillac ELR has been a sales disaster. What showed so much promise in concept form fell flat due to an expensive price and performance that barely differed itself from the cheaper (and yet still under-performing) Chevy Volt. Rumors even swirled that the ELR was effectively dead-in-the-water, and yet what we have here is perhaps Caddy's last ditch push in the marketplace — the 2016 ELR.

Many of the ELR plug-in hybrid's shortcomings have been addressed, such as more power and better handling, along with clever tech that now arrives as standard. But perhaps most importantly, the 2016 ELR sees a sizable price drop.
And that's the problem with many plug-in hybrids today: the technology isn't yet cheap enough to offer it at a price that makes sense to the consumer. We'll see soon enough whether this new ELR will finally appear on the hybrid map.
